Nelson Mandela

I know it may be a bit late but I wanted to take a bit of time to reflect on Nelson Mandela and the life that he led. Regardless of what conclusions people may come to a modern icon will always be a phrase that will be largely used by people. He was an inspiration to everyone.

He will always be remembered by sports fans for what he did the day of the Rugby World Cup Final in 1995. Instead of wearing a suit like most would do, he wore the South African jersey, the emblem been the springbok, the symbol of oppression that he had suffered under for many years.

He rallied his people around the team (made up of whites only at the time). In the end they were victories beating the much fancied All Blacks 15-12.

This picture is up there with one of the most iconic sporting images of all time

Its amazing how the actions of one man changed an entire nation.

He was a leader that led from the back like ” a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.” (Nelson Mandela Long Walk to Freedom)

May you Rest In Peace.
