This day in history

On this day in 1965 Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athengoras I simultaneously revoked mutual excommunications that had been in place since 1054. It was a significant step forward towards restoring communion between Rome and Constantinople.

It ended with the Catholic-Orthodox Joint declaration of 1965. Healthy relationship thankfully have remained since.
