Teaching Strategy:

Story Telling, concept learning, engaging through narrative

Phase  1

Brief Outline

Introduction

Concept Learning

For the introduction to my lesson I will briefly recap on what was covered in the last lesson and how it will link up with today’s lesson.

I will then introduce the pupils to today’s lesson and what I imagine the pupils to know when the lesson is over.

In addition to this I will introduce the concept-parable and more importantly the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Phase 2

Brief Outline

Story telling

I will introduce the pupils to the parable of the Good Samaritan. I will give the pupils sufficient background to the story so to make the material easier to comprehend.

We will then examine the story of the Good Samaritan and from the story we will look at how Jesus’ vision of the kingdom of God is portrayed in the story and what the deeper meaning of the story is?

From the story I will ask questions like:

  • Who does the Good Samaritan represent?
  • Who is the man lying in the side of the road symbolize?
  • From the story what do we learn about the Kingdom of God?

Phase 3

Brief Outline

Engaging with Narrative

To clarify the material for the pupils I will show them a video of the Good Samaritan.

We will also look at the wording of the song that is sung in the video and how this gives us a deeper meaning to the parable.

Phase 4

Brief Outline

Engaging with Narrative

I will look at the story with the pupils and how we can relate the parable to our own lives.

In addition to this I will discuss with the pupils on how we can become the Good Samaritans and the steps that are needed for us to become closer to God and the kingdom of God.

Phase 5

Brief Outline

Conclusion

In conclusion to my lesson I will for a moment recap on what was covered and conclude with higher and lower order questions for the pupils to answer orally in class.

I will then give the class an opportunity to ask me any questions on what they found difficult to comprehend throughout the lesson.
